Signalling upgrade to ETCS BaseLine 3

Context
The European Train Control System (ETCS) is the signalling and control component of the European Rail Traffic Management System (ERTMS). The ETCS will introduce a cross-border interoperability through Europe by creating a single standard for railway signalling thanks to a continuous communication-based signalling system, avoiding train movement interruption and ensuring passengers’ safety.

Objective
Train operators want to introduce a modern and standard type of train protection systems. Our Customer is implementing the Baseline 3 Signalling standards on board of his high speed trains, installing new HW and SW, and required support to upgrade the Train Control and Monitoring System (TCMS).

Solution
EMA has been supporting the Customer throughout this project, writing new TCMS requirements, designing new software logic and validating it both on simulator and on the train. EMA has been helping the Customer also during homologation tests carried out across different National Borders and producing the relevant documentation in compliance with SIL2 and SIL4 standards.
